The Best Reality Television To Date

Dance

Whatever this season promised to bring, I had become tired of all of the dancing, drama, judges, and contestants. Chloris Leachman frustrated me to such a degree I even stopped watching. But then along came Gilles Marini, Lil Kim, Ty Murray, Melissa Rycroft, The Woz, Julianne’s boyfriend, Chuck Wicks, Denise Richards, Shawn Johnson, and a few others that really didn’t interest me.

Despite that dreadful lineup, there was an individual that did make it all worthwhile. It was french actor Gilles Marini who pulled it all together for the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars Marini was on my radar after watching the Sex and the City movie where he played Dante. Proving he’s no one-act wonder, Gilles shows his other talents on Dancing with the Stars. Gilles raises the temperature on the dance floor. One of Dancing’s judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, let slip what a lot of us were thinking – Carole, Gilles Marini’s wife, one was lucky lady.

The big disappointment on the show was Denise Richards – she showed an almost total lack of both talent and personality. The Woz may be a computer genius and he definitely seemed like a great guy, but he just didn’t have the moves on the dance floor. While Chuck Wicks put in 110% and stayed on the show week after week. I have to admit I never would have dreamed Lil’ Kim, who I knew very little about before the show, would turn out to be an incredible dancer and one of my favorite celebs. Stepping up with great technicality, Derek Huff won me with his brilliant choreography. They proved to be a powerful duo when they showed that they had chemistry along with their talent. How stunning was it then that Lil’ Kim was voted off ahead of several less talented dance partners.

The final four, as I write, are Melissa and Tony, Ty and Chelsie, Gilles and Cheryl, Shawn and Mark. With nearly no preparation Melissa replaced an injured Jewel just before shooting began this season. She showed immediately that she had ballet training. Her dancing has been almost flawless, earning her a set of perfect scores on the last show. But perfect scores don’t always mean you won’t be voted off. (Take a look at Sabrina Bryan, she was sent packing with her dancing partner Mark Ballas in the 5th season despite scoring the highest first week score and later getting the first 30 out of 30 score.) Ty Murry is the dancer who has so improved, and is also so love-able. Ty’s experience riding bulls and guiding horses doesn’t translate directly to the dance floor and provided a big cache of voting fans who normally wouldn’t watch Dancing with the Stars. Shawn Johnson, gold medal winning gymnast, showed us that she can perform on the hard dance floor just as well as she can on a soft mat. Then there’s Gilles who has never danced a dance I didn’t enjoy.

Who will bring home the trophy? Another celebrity contestant and their partner gets sent off on the next show. After that the three last dance teams have a final dance-off. I can’t wait until the final show airs! Luckily I have a DVR for a backup just in case something comes up.

On a side note, one of the best ways to watch Dancing with the Stars is in high definition. After fifteen years with my regular 32-inch screen I decided to take the leap and make the HDTV upgrade with a new widescreen TV. I didn’t know what I was missing! I never imagined how much clearer my picture would be with high definition. If you get an HD high definition TV you’ll need to contact your local cable provider to get the most out of it. I called Comcast Cable, my cable service supplier, and add HD channels to my already great channel lineup. And the HDTV picture form Comcast is amazing. I thought “what the heck?” and added the Comcast Digital Voice and High speed internet while I was at it since they could be added for such a low rate. My download speeds and television picture are by far the fastest and clearest I have ever experienced with my new broadband service and HD Comcast Cable. As a bonus, they offer digital phone service at flat rate pricing. The phone is very clear and I can call friends and family around the US and never have to pay long distance charges. You do not have to think twice before order Comcast’s great package deals. Saving money while enjoying the best cable tv, broadband internet, and digital phone service can offer is a no-brainer. I suggest using the web to find the best Comcast Cable promotions and savings out there. You really can save a bunch if you know where to find them. Consider Comcast’s bundle called Triple Play. You can get each service in one discounted package for huge savings over purchasing each one individually.
