The older we get, the more likely it is that we will develop wrinkles. It’s just a fact of life. No one is immune to it. It just so happens that they may appear earlier for some people than others. It you’re concerned about the development of wrinkles on your face, don’t think that you’re alone. The fact that Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in the United States today is proof of that.

Julyne Derrick reveals this tidbit of information on About.com, and goes on to explain that Botox is actually both a safe and effective treatment for a lot more than wrinkles. Yes, smile lines, frown lines and other examples of a skin’s loss of elasticity can all be treated by Botox injections. But so can excessive sweating and even migraines. Let’s take a look at Botox’s enemies a bit closer, shall we?

Crow’s Feet. The lines that surround our eyes are among of the most noticeable signs of aging. A lot can be told by our eyes, it is often said. So I suppose a lot can be assumed by the crow’s feet the appear around our eyes as we get older. Derrick reports that her Botox injections (that caused very little pain, by the way) worked to relax the muscles in the treated area.

She now notices that the lines no longer remain when she smiles a facial motion that often produces facial lines. The Botox injections, she notes, also provided a lift , that helped her eyelids to no longer look hooded . This assisted her in no longer looking tired. She reports that a year after her first Botox injection, she is more than happy with its ability to ward off crow’s feet and that tired look.

Frown Lines. Have you ever been asked if you’re upset when you are actually having a good day? Such a question can actually turn your day around if your forehead showcases frown lines. Derrick admits that her own doctor advised her to stop making that face . The knitted brow look was something that was hard for her to control. This lead to the appearance of frown lines.

Botox injections works to prevent horizontal lines from appearing on the forehead. Again, the relaxation of the muscles in this area helps for the skin to go back to its original place after a facial motion is made. That way, you don’t have to worry about looking upset when you’re actually in a good mood.

Excessive Sweating. Now how can Botox smoothen out wrinkles AND prevent excessive sweating? Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine, explains Derrick. This is the chemical that is responsible for stimulating the sweat glands. You may be surprised to know how many individuals suffer from excessive sweating. Also known as hyperhidrosis, this is another enemy of Botox.

Patients generally receive Botox injections under their arms to combat hyperhidrosis. The results, notes Derrick, have been incredible. If you suffer from crow’s feet, frown lines or excessive sweating, Botox is most likely for you. Be sure to consult an experienced doctor first.
